Traditional German Apple Fritters (Apfelküchlein)

German Apple Fritters (Apfelküchlein) - This is another easy recipe from my collection. Warm German apple fritters topped with some vanilla sauce just make the chill Autumn even better. This traditional Apfelküchlein can be eaten on its own or as dessert.
Yield: 4 people

Ingredients you need

  • 250 g All-Purpose Flour
  • 250 g Milk
  • 1 pinch of Salt
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 Egg White beaten
  • 3 Apples
  • Oil

Topping

  • 100 g Sugar
  • 1-2 tsp Cinnamon Powder optional

Directions

  • In a suitable bowl, sieve flour. Thereafter, add in your milk, salt, and eggs.
    APFELKÜCHLEIN ZUTATEN
  • Mix the ingredients.
  • Add beaten egg white into the mixture. To prevent the egg white from breaking, mix the batter gently.
  • Peel apples and cut the apples into rings. Remove seeds from the middle of the apple slices to get a donut shape.
    APPLE FRITTERS APPLE RINGS
  • On high heat, heat up some oil in your frying pan. Drop a tiny piece of batter into the oil. If the batter starts cooking, it means that the oil is hot enough. The amount of oil depends on the type of pan you use.
  • Lower the heat to medium. Dip the apple slices into the batter and fry them in the pan slowly until both sides turn brown. This will soften the apple slices.
    GERMAN APPLE FRITTERS RECIPE
  • While the apple fritters are frying, put sugar and cinnamon powder onto a plate and mix them.
  • Once your Apfelküchlein are ready, you can transfer them to the sugar-cinnamon mixture and coat them. Alternatively, you can transfer the fritters onto a piece of kitchen roll, to remove any excess oil. Thereafter, coat the apple fritters with sugar-cinnamon mixture.
  • Serve these delicious apple fritters with some vanilla sauce or eat them on their own.
