You can probably buy them in stores. However, the costs can add up quickly, if you are getting presents in big batches. Homemade hot chocolate on sticks are budget-friendly, and you can make them in big batches. Not only that, they can be easily and quickly made in your kitchen! Tips on making Hot Chocolate on Sticks
Chocolates: My personal favourite is the combination of white and dark chocolate layers. White chocolate adds a sweetness to the warm milk, while dark chocolate gives a nice colour and a cocoa flavour to your hot beverages.
However, you can use any chocolate flavours as you wish. You can combine different colours and flavours. Additionally, you can also mix the chocolates by swirling them with a toothpick to get a fusion.
Toppings: This hot chocolate on sticks recipe is all about creativity. You can use sprinkles, nuts, marshmallows or any toppings of your preference.
In case that you are adding toppings on top of your hot chocolate stirrers, you should add them after inserting your wooden spoons (or straws/ Popsicle sticks) into your melted chocolates. The reason being, the toppings will sink into your melted chocolates if you insert the sticks after the toppings.
Containers: In my case, I used a silicone baby storage container with 9 compartments (each can contain about 60 ml baby purée). The size and shape is perfect for my hot chocolate on sticks.
However, you can use other suitable containers as your chocolate moulds. For example, disposable plastic shot glass, large ice cube trays and muffin trays are amazing alternatives.
Wooden spoons: As a gift, wooden spoons are great because the receivers of the gifts can immediately stir the hot chocolate on sticks into the warm milk without an additional spoon.
You can personalize the wooden spoons as well by using permanent markers. Spoons work and look best as a present in comparison to paper straws or Popsicle sticks.
On a lower budget, you can use paper straws or Popsicle sticks as well. Paper straws are colourful and decorative on their own. Just remember to keep the milk warm and not hot, as it will damage the straws. This would prevent the straws from stirring.
How to make Hot Chocolate on Sticks
In three metal bowls, melt white, milk and dark chocolates separately over a hot water bath. Make sure that no water comes in contact with the chocolates.
Tip: If you are only using one metal bowl to melt the chocolates, then start with white chocolate, then milk chocolate and lastly, dark chocolate.
In a suitable container, pour melted chocolates into the container with compartments. Please feel free to be creative: three chocolate layers; black and white layers; black and white fusion; different sprinkles. The list goes on.
Tip: If you are using a silicone container such as the one I am using, it would be logical to put the lid below the silicone container before you start. This is because silicone is really soft, and it will be difficult if you intend to transfer the container from one working top to another working space after you pour in the content.
Stick wooden spoons/Popsicle sticks/paper straws into the melted chocolates. The chocolates should be thick enough to hold on the sticks. Sprinkle and decorate hot chocolate sticks according to your taste. This step is absolutely optional.
Let the hot chocolate stirrers cool down completely at room temperature, if you intend to send them away. This takes about 6-8 hours, or just leave them to cool down overnight.
After they have hardened, take them carefully out from the compartments. Insert the hot chocolate sticks into small plastic gift bags and wrap accordingly. Please do not forget to print out your free hot chocolate stick instruction gift tags below.

How to serve Hot Chocolate on Sticks
Pour 250 ml warm milk (not hot, as it might damage the paper straws and kill the minerals of the milk) into a cup. Simply stir hot chocolate stick for a few minutes into the warm milk. Lastly, enjoy your hot chocolate!
How to store Hot Chocolate on Sticks
Chocolates can be stored for a long time. It can easily store it for many weeks. If you are giving these hot chocolate on sticks to someone, I would give them away as soon as possible.
This is due to the fact that chocolates may bloom with time. This means a greyish coating may form on the surface of the chocolates. However, these chocolates are edible. As a result, this may not look appealing as a gift.
