Stuffed Bread Rolls with cheese and ham (Gefüllte Brötchen Rezept)  – Cheese lovers watch out! This recipe is for you! These stuffed bread rolls can be made quickly and easily!

These stuffed bread rolls with cheese and ham are awesome for those days, when you have limited time, energy and mood to be in the kitchen cooking. I know I felt like this. Life caught up with me this week. This is why I love this recipe because it takes you about 30 minutes to whip up these cheesy babies.

I know many of you out there (especially mums!) have a busy schedule and do not have time to cook. Therefore, I thought it would be interesting to share this stuffed bread rolls recipe with you.

In addition, these bread rolls are a blast for cheese lovers! Imaging pulling strings of melted cheese out of the mouth (not the best scene for a first date though!). Isn’t it drooling?

Ingredients/ Tips on making Stuffed Bread Rolls

GERMAN RED CABBAGE RECIPE

Grated Cheese: You can use any grated cheese of your choice – Emmental, Mozzarella or Gouda. These cheese are common in Germany. My favourite grated cheese for baking is Emmental. A mixture of Emmental and Mozzarella tastes great as well in this stuffed bread rolls recipe.

Herbs: It is spring time now. Fresh herbs are definitely a blessing! If you do not have access to fresh herbs, dry herbs work as well. I choose parsley and dill (my new-found love) for this recipe because I wanted the herb aroma to complement with the cheese and ham flavours. Unfortunately, I do not have fresh chives in my garden yet because it goes really well. Therefore, I skipped this ingredient.

Miracel Whip: An alternative to Miracel whip is mayonnaise. I personally prefer using Miracel whip because of its sweetness and mildness (in comparison to mayo). Other than that, you can use only Miracel whip or 1:1 whip to crème fraîche (which is what I like).

Ground curry powder: I love curry, and ground curry powder gives a punch to the taste of these stuffed bread rolls with cheese and ham. However, not everyone likes the curry aroma. In order to satisfy everyone’s taste buds, I serve curry powder separately. Anyone who likes curry powder can dust some over his/her stuffed bread rolls – as much as he/ she likes!

GERMAN RED CABBAGE RECIPE
  1. Cut ham and herbs into tiny pieces. Preheat the baking oven to 250 °C.
  2. In a suitable bowl, add cheese, ham, herbs, seasoning, miracel whip and crème fraîche. Since not everyone likes curry, I usually serve it separately. Simply dust some curry powder over the baked stuffed bread rolls.
  3. Using a knife, remove the top part of the bread rolls (about 0.5 – 1 cm). Thereafter, remove the inner part of the bread rolls.
  4. Fill the bread rolls with cheese and ham fillings.
  5. Reduce the heat of the baking oven to 230 °C and bake bread rolls for about 12 -17 minutes or according to taste.
  6. Take them out of the baking oven and allow stuffed bread rolls to cool down a little.

How to serve Stuffed Bread Rolls with Cheese and Ham

Top the bread rolls with additional herbs (for example Parsley, dill or chives) or seasoning (for example ground curry powder). Additionally, this crunchy carrot salad or a German lamb’s lettuce salad serves as a perfect side dish.

Since the bread rolls can be “large” for a young child, I always cut them into quarters, so that it is easier for my children to enjoy.

How to store Bread Rolls with Cheese and Ham

If it is possible, I would recommend finishing these stuffed bread rolls with cheese and ham within a meal time. However, if you have leftovers, simply cover the bread rolls with a cling wrap or keep them in an airtight container in a cool place. Warm them up slightly in baking oven before serving for the second time.
